"Artist Barbara Galazzo might just laugh if you say you imagine her spending leisurely hours in her Cold Spring studio creating the fused-glass work that has earned her national recognition.

No, these days are a bit more harried, to say the least."

"If you love color—bright, lush, eye-popping color—you’re sure to fall head over heels with the brilliantly original work of fused glass and mosaic artist Barbara Galazzo. "

"tour organizers believe “this is a distinct variation from the often impersonal and intimidating gallery setting; the personal relationship with the artists brings another layer of meaning to any artwork that you choose to live with.”

Barbara Galazzo, founder of Cold Spring Arts and ArtFull Living, affirms this sentiment. “By going into a studio, viewers get to see what goes on behind closed doors … how the artist’s creativity stirs them into action … and the processes involved in getting to the finished product,” she said."

"Depth is achieved by layering up to eight colors of glass, resulting in work that combines hundreds of cut pieces. Additional designs are tediously sawed from the glass or kiln-carved (a technique in which glass is fused over a relief to give the appearance of being carved) into the glass for even more dimension. Through her years of making glass, Galazzo has found it is the attention to design and detail in finishing a piece that sets a true artist's work apart."

"Glass and ceramic mosaic wall pieces by Barbara Galazzo and Janine Sopp provided a perfect solution for a difficult space: a long, gently curved wall that would prohibit the use of wall-mounted pieces on paper, canvas or other two-dimensional media. Barbara and Janine’s mosaics interact with the lighting, casting colored shadows on the wall and on each other as they are set at different distances from the surface. This installation effectively turns the entire wall into a huge curved canvas."

"A dazzling display of 40 ‘fired up’ artworks created by artists from the Metro New York area in an array of media including glass, ceramics, stoneware, clay, encaustic, and resin.

(New Rochelle, NY—October 13, 2015)… The Lazarus Gallery at United Hebrew of New Rochelle is showcasing a rich collection of work showing the creative possibilities of “fired up” art in fused glass, cast glass, painted and glazed stoneware, ceramics, lamp-worked glass, mixed media, resin, glass, brass, and encaustics."

CURATORIAL

Interviews and writeups about shows and events curated by Barbara Galazzo. Click to read the full article.

"I know a place where you can play mini golf and checkers below a ceiling of floating glass. Where it’s always evening under a Parisian skylight. Where otters share their hookah with sloths and princesses reign over dragonflies from high up in a bough. Where even the daily grind is made peaceful by musical surroundings and champagne bubbles fizz and sparkle eternally."

"We were all set to share the October exhibition details for Gallery 66 NY in Cold Spring, when gallery founder and curator Barbara Galazzo sent another update about a special event set for this weekend. So we’re happy to add details of the “Chair-ity” Pop-Up Event to our report."

"“Living Sculpture” – On June 23rd, Gallery 66 NY will present a most unusual combination of items and events. While focusing on artist-designed apparel, the show will also feature couture created from coffee bean sacks, a display of stunning Japanese kimonos, edible wearable art, an outfit made of glass – and a life-size Barbie!

“Drawn to Fashion” – On June 29th, SkyBaby Studio, 75 Main St., will host a collaboration featuring the art and fashions of Indigo Chic, Hudson Outfitters and Art to Wear Too. The clothing is all wearable and chic, BUT the show will have a unique interactive component: As our models pose in a wide variety of outfits, performance artist Jaanika Peerna will create one of her fabulous works by actually drawing on a live model!"

"AG readers have already met Barbara Galazzo. She was the one who dreamed up the ArtFull Living Designer Show House in Cold Spring last summer, a wonderfully creative effort we spotlighted last June’s “Sculpting Summer” issue. And in her continuing role as the founder of Cold Spring Arts, Galazzo has tipped me off to a few more artistic endeavors coming soon to the Putnam County village."

"From March 25 - May 25, 2018, these compelling exhibitions explore the relationship between nature and humanity, capturing the environmental impacts of human resources. It is not just about climate change, but also a humanitarian issue. Artists present work that first appears beautiful but, ultimately, reveals an ugly truth underneath of damage, transmutation and the decomposed. These exhibits offer a fresh perspective on critical environmental issues and exemplifies our capacity to understand, adapt and motivate in the face of danger."

"When we think of such outdoor sculptures, it’s hard not to envision a monumental creation hovering above a reflecting pool or anchoring a wide swath of lawn. But what about when a sculpture is tucked into a woodland, only reachable via a narrow, winding pathway and only visible up close?"
